Flexible Maintenance Services

In 1998, Mercedes went to the flexible service maintenance system, also commonly referred to as “Flex Service”. This included using synthetic oil with the use of the Mercedes fleece oil filter for longer oil change intervals. With these Mercedes fleece oil filters, vehicles can go 10,000 miles or more between oil changes. The advanced filtering system plays an important role to help provide your Mercedes-Benz years of trouble-free driving.

The flexible service system has two major categories known as Flex A and Flex B service. Hundreds of checks and adjustments are made using our state of the art technology, along with the careful eye of our service team when your vehicle visits our garage. The Master Certified Technicians at Bearden Benz Repair only use genuine OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) Mercedes-Benz parts and supplies for routine maintenance services, ensuring your investment is always protected.

Flex A Service

Flex A is shown with a 1 wrench icon on the dash. It is a yearly maintenance service that includes a synthetic oil change and a Mercedes-Benz fleece oil filter. In addition, a thorough inspection is performed bumper to bumper. These include parking brake checks, undercarriages inspections on brakes and suspension components. The sunroof is inspected, and track adjustments are made with lubrication. Electrical systems are also checked by testing the battery, starter and charging system. All tires (including the spare) are inspected for proper pressure and tread life. All repairs are made with genuine OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) Mercedes-Benz parts, so you can ensure that your investment is always protected.

Flex B Service

Flex B service or 2 wrenches shown on the dashboard will follow the next year or 10,000 miles after Flex A service. It includes the same repairs as Flex A but it also includes an air cabin filter replacement, and a brake system flush. It is required every 2 years per Mercedes-Benz factory recommendations. These additional repairs make Flex B service slightly more expensive than the Flex A service.

Other Services

Some Mercedes-Benz models may show service for Flex Service C, D or E etc. are mileage and time based reminders that could include transmission service, spark plugs, etc. along with Flex A or B services. If you have any questions on any messages that may appear on your dashboard, feel free to give us a call and we will be glad to help you.

Transmission Services

1996-2003 Models

In 1996, Mercedes came out with a fully electronic 5 speed transmission that was designed to go 100,000 miles before maintenance was performed. Unfortunately, Mercedes found out very early that several shifting malfunctions existed and vehicles and the transmission filter and fluid would have to be changed much sooner than 100K. Mercedes thus went to 40,000 miles across the board for all models.

2004-Current Models

In 2004 Mercedes-Benz came out with the 7 speed transmission that had no dipstick and the control module (or “brain”) was located inside the transmission to streamline production. This transmission fluid level must be checked from under the car at the pan when servicing the transmission. This also needs service at 40,000 miles similar to previous years models.

Transmission Service

  • All past and present models serviced
  • Factory recommended transmission fluid
  • Comprehensive adapter & o-ring inspection
  • Full transmission fluid flush & fill-up
  • Service intervals every 40,000 miles
